Local paint stores are a good source. Check your local paper in the services directory also. Any tradesman should have liability insurance so check on that. Alot of the rest is really up to preference. We prefer to spray the houses we paint, but there are occasions when we only use brush and roller. Make sure they will be taping/tarping/protecting somehow anything adjacent that you don't want to get painted. You can also ask them to provide references. Anyone hiring someone in the construction industry should ask for at least 3 or 4 references.
It can be very frustrating; most paint suppliers can recommend some one for you.
I have had many painters at my Mother's house. Some good some bad. The good ones are hard to find. Start with the paint store, they might know of many painters. Next, ask your friends who they have had. I have been lucky a couple of times, one came from a painting company, I knew he was excellent and I had him come on weekends and evenings, some company's will not allow that. Make sure you have written agreement. Be around and watch them, if you don't like what they are doing, and you will know right away, call the company and ask for someone else. Or go to another company. If you can paint a little yourself, you can learn what they are suppose to be doing. Make sure they are supervised by their superiors once in awhile. good luck, MJS
Try not to go with a crackhead. They tend to be incompetent.
