If I buy an exspensive duvet is it worth the money?
Question:or can I put just a regular comforter in there?
Answers:
You CAN put a regular comforter in there. But the reason people love down comforters is that they are light and luxurious feeling. Regular comforters are polyester filled and are stiff and hot. Plus down can keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A duvet cover is an absolute neccesity, as it keeps the oils in your skin from ruining the down. By not using a duvet cover, the down filler will degrade at twice the rate. Don't buy down at places like TJMaxx, as they sell cheap quality down products that smell like a barnyard when you bring them home. Look specifically for down comforters and pillows that are marked hyper-cleaned, super-cleaned, or freshness assured. These products have odor free, allergy free, higher lofting, lighter weight down.
A good quality down comforter is totally worth the $250 you might spend. You will be glad every single night when you crawl into bed.
I'd invest my money in a good comforter. Duvet covers simply cover the comforter, and are made to be washed, thus wearing out. Plus styles change, so changing the duvet cover would be easier, and cheaper.
A duvet is made of down, or a blend. It is suppose to be used in place of sheets and blankets. It is the blanket. They originated in Europe to facilitate the ease of making a bed.
A duvet cover is the envelope that covers the duvet.
A comforter is to be used in addition to sheets and blankets and is decorative.
You can spend the money on a duvet, which is usually white or ecru. It is channeled, squared or diamonded, etc. It can be tailored to your environment. Extra light for warm climates, Light for summer or heavy weight for the cold winters. You can then put a duvet cover over it to match your decor. You can take it off for cleaning.
A comforter is a one piece decorative blanket, (again to be used with your sheets and blankets). You could still use a duvet cover to change the look.
Duvets are confused with comforters all the time.
Look up www.wikipedia to see the definition. If you want a good down duvet, check out www.the company store or www.cuddledown. You will then need to buy a duvet cover.
I use my duvet without blankets with a duvet cover, (which is how they were intended to be used). It is and easy way to make up your bed and if you spend the money for a quality one, they are worth it and last a long time. The money goes towards the down fill.
If you want to buy a decorative comforter and use it with the sheets and bankets, then go with that look. They are not filled with down.
Even at the sites that I mentioned, they call them comforters.
But, I am giving you the technical terms. Check my last answer on duvets, comforters.
I definitely think they are worth the price. Nothing gives you the comfort like a down duvet.
