Cleaning walls and ceiling--prep for painting?
Question:I want to paint and fix up our never treated drywall walls and textured ceiling. Should you wash/clean the walls and ceiling first? With water or water & soap? What kind of soap should I use?
thanks!
Answers:
First I wouldn't wash "never treated" drywall because water might ruin the drywall, I would remove any dust, cobwebs and the like. Then I would go to a reputable paint dealer and ask for a sealer/primer for untreated drywall. The ceilings I would probably prime with any good primer like Kilz if it was necessary and paint them,or just paint them with ceiling paint depending on how bad they were.
if u'r walls have many dirty marks.. jst clean them other than that run u'r dust floor mop over the wall to get any dust or cobwebs that may have happened. Same w/ the ceiling... Then b/c it's never been painted, u'll need a primer lst & also b/c of the color u may use. IF it's a darker color, primer tinted close to it will help the color come out more even.
Then paint away. U MAY need 2 coats again depending on the color chosen but u should b fine
Have fun~
Its called Sugar Soap, found in Hardware stores. It what Tradesmen use, because of its strenghtability to get stuck into everything, life has thrown at your walls and ceilings. It takes care of dirt which wont make the paint or anything stick , plus It has a compound in it that, attracts paint ,wallpaper and that to your wall surface.Happy cleaning, should come up good.youll be happy with the result...
