How do I attach skirting boards to a plastered brick wall?
Question:I am renovating a bedroom in a double brick house and are looking for ideas on what is the best way to attach skirting boards to a plastered brick wall
Answers:
The old fashioned way of doing this is:
Chip back some of the plaster at floor level to see a brick.
Then work out along the wall where the mortar is between every four, five or six bricks.
Scrape out or drill out the mortar between the bricks.
Place a piece of cut to size timber in there. You may need to hammer the pieces of timber in there get a tight fit. Or use liquid nails to hold them in tight.
Mark out on your skirting board where the timber in the wall lines up.
Using bullet head nails, hammer the skirting board to the wall where the timber plugs are.
Doing it this way makes it easier to remove the skirting boards at a later date if needed.
If your skirting board are on the outside ,I would probubly use a stud gun to shoot a nail into the plaster, try to hit a morter joint if all possable, also you could put a little Liquid nails behind the board, It might sound crazy but when it set's up it will be very hard to move the boards.
