Can anyone recommend a good exterior paint to be used on an old brick house?

First of all it is NOT reccommended to paint brick, it seals in moisture and will hasten the deterioration of the brick. If you insist on painting it, then buy a HIGH quality primer/sealer and paint..I painted Professionally for many years and the only paint I would consider using is I.C.I. or Delux...they have their own outlets and will gladly tell you what is reccommended for the job, climate, and conditions in your area. A bit of trivia...Delux paints owns I.C.I. , Pittsburg, and almost every brand name sold in any store, including Sherwin Williams. The MOST important part of any paint job is preparation..make sure the surface is as clean as possible, and the Primer.ALWAYS 2 coats and apply it as if it was the finish coat.
Be sure to wash off the bricks, let them dry out and then seal them before you paint. expect to pay 80-120.00 min. for a good grade of paint (5 gal.).
I recommend NOT painting a brick house. Especially if it is an older brick house. If it has been painted previously, please sandblast it to remove the old paint, then pressure wash it and let the aged brick show! Nothing is prettier than original old brick!
Besides, once you paint brick, it will have to be repainted because the paint will age, crack, chip, and peel. Painting would cause you more work in the future.
First of all there's the prep job. Pressure wash . Allow a good 3 or 4 days to dry as masonry is very porous. Then get a good masonry primer and apply as directed. Then 1, maybe 2 coats of a good finish paint. I'd suggest you stick with the top 3 ( Sherwin-williams, Porter Paint, Benjamin-Moore). ICI is good but have close 5 stores in my city recently(not a good sign). But remember, the paint job will only be as good as the preb job. AND THAT MEANS PRIMER
