Exterior Painting?

Question:I'm getting ready to hire a painter to paint the exterior of my house. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about that? How do I tell if the painter is any good? How do I keep from getting ripped off? I have a 2 story colonial. Whats a good paint? Also, has anyone used the companies that use the cermac paint? Is it any good? It is called Rhino Sheild Ceramic Coat .

Answers:
Get at least 2 estimates and ask for references. Check them out.
Most major name brands are the same quality. An experienced painter should know this.
Ceramic paint is a ripoff.

Getting two or three estimates and referrals is a very good idea. If the ceramic paint is being sold on it's insulating values..run. I have dealt with some of these people and uh..well, do a search and you will see what I mean. All paints are NOT the same, but if you use the highest quality of paint at several brands you WILL get what you paid for in quality of material. But, and this is big, the best quality in the world will not make up for lack of proper preparation. Compare what they are going to do to the house (washing, caulking, spot priming etc.) and how they would handle problem areas they come across. There is a new technology in paint that goes on thicker, lifetime warranty et al. that is worth a look. Porter Permanizer, Pittsburgh Timeless etc. that are well worth the money. The one you mentioned....no.
