What is the easiest way to remove ceramic tiles from a floor?

Question:

Answers:
sledge hammer

We took them off of a countertop using chisel and hammer, tapped along the grout lines and the tiles popped up or were at least MUCH easier to pry up. We tried smashing with a sledge, but that cause way to much mess and slivers of tile...OUCH.
There is no easy way to completely remove the ceramic tile and the thin set You can break the tiles with a mahl (watch for debris flying) and I rented a tool from the home depot that you hook to a compressor that vibrates and breaks te thin set off. You are still going to have to use a self-leveling mortar to smooth the floor completely
