Nifty new mini lasers on the market all you to get everything straight. Put a felt button on the bottom two corners (available WalMart or hobby stores) when you align to keep the pictures from sliding in the future.
Lazer levels are cheap now.
If they are in a line, the laser levels work well. If they are individually spaced at different heights, use a small torpedo level and a couple small pieces of double sided tape at the bottom. Level on the top and press to the wall at the bottom to make them stay there.
