I need help on what colors to paint my walls in my living room?

Question:My couches are a cranberry-ish color and are of the "Over stuffed" type. My coffee table is a big ottoman cover in the aged leather (Dark chocolate)that you usually see on a mans "smoking chair" in a library. I have a brick fireplace with a rought iron screen. I need to know what color to paint the walls, what color curtains, and what color accents pieces. I was thinking a dark brow curtains, maybe a mocha wall and amber colored accent pieces. Like a nice dark amber colored glass candle holders and bowls. ANY IDEAS!?!?

Answers:
I think you color choices are good, I'd make the mocha color a bit lighter, with all those bold dark colors you could end up with them competing for attention and you could end up making a room look smaller than it really is, espeically if you don't have a lot of big windows for natural light. You could also through in some cranberry accents in the form of throw pillows/blankets or candles in you candle holders. Make sure the fabric of of your curtains matches the fabric of you other furniture in style. I.E. don't sheer light curtains if all the fabric is heavier, it will look out of place.

Also, never, ever trust the light in a paint store! It will look completely different in the light in your home than at the store! Take some sample home, cut them up and tape them on the wall and put them near your couch, chair, carpet/floor etc. Some paint companies offer inexpensive 2 oz samples in thier most popular colors. You can paint a 2x2 section with that and really see what it will look like. I've had many guests in my paint department who were so grateful for that because they loved the color in the store and hated it on the wall. 3 bucks for a sample verses 20 plus dollars for a gallon of paint you hate is a big difference. And most places won't take back mixed paint.

off white is always a safe color
That depends on how dark you want the room to be. I bought a bright red leather couch and have all black furniture otherwise, and painted my walls a turquoise blue, it looks pretty good, I like a lot of color though. The red and turquoise look really great together. Maybe try a light sage green for the walls and brown and amber for the accent pieces, mocha walls might drown it out with too much brown or maybe a light cappuccino color instead of mocha. Man, I could really go for some coffee now!
I like the idea of using chocolate & amber. The orange color of the amber is secondary color to red, so that would match well. It would give the room a rich ambiance. You could either take in a cabin/lodge direction, or a "men's club" direction.

You might consider a nice green, which is complementary to red/cranberry, so you'll have high contrast, but you'd have to do it in such a way that it doesn't look Christmasy.

If you want to lighten up the room a bit, use a nice neutral like tan.
I love the idea of dark brown (or chocolate) curtains/drapes for your room. However, for the walls I would look to do a golden color (not bright). Take a look at Benjamin Moore's Yosemite Yellow and Westminster Gold.

Whichever you choose, I agree that colors don't always look the way you think either on the sample card or online (as monitors vary). Definitely invest the $3-$5.00 in sample pots of your final choices, and paint a nice size swatch on a couple of walls so you can see how the light is going to hit it, and how it will actually look on the wall.
I like nice warm colors or neutral colors.
Warm colors are great and they help yuo feel cozy but they do tend to make the room appear smaller.
Maybe an olive green would be great for the walls
we used a green and EVERYTHING looks great...it's light "inchworm" green.
