How do i measure for a new carpet on the stairs?

Question:I want to know how to measure for a new carpet, but do i measure the steps?

Answers:
Measure the rise and run of a step, then multiply by the number of steps (all will be the same)
Make sure you have extra length...it is easire to cut down than the stretch it out.

Get a carpet firm to work it out as they will be the ones to fit it ... if you are thinking about fitting it yourself ... DON'T

It's worth paying the money for it to look good.
rise and run
ok take it 11-13 steps...without even measuring, you'll need a piece 12X8 trust me
Most stairs are a set measurement, so just tell the carpet shop how many steps and they will work it out
Measure each step,
not including the bit going up..
Just the bit you step on..
multiply that by how many steps you have..
And mulyiply that by 2.

Hope ive explained this easily
dont know but can i have your old one please.xxx
Get the fitter to tell you .
when you measure for a new carpet for the stairs you have to measure the how many steps you have and for each step the place you put your feet on and the height of the step and add them to each other (the place where you put your feet on + the height of the step) and then this will give you the right size of the carpet for instance if it gave you 3 foot bring the carpet 2 more foot .
When measuring for new carpet in a room measure the length and the width (make sure you measure through the doorways. Here's a room size 11'9" x 21'2" you would need a piece of carpet 12' x 21'6" this gives the installer enough to trim and install. If it is over sized room let's say a 14' x 16' ( carpet typically comes in three widths 12', 13'6" and 15'. So depending on the type of carpet and the widths that it comes in is how you are going to figure the material needed.
The typical step size is 36" or a little narrower. the step and the riser size combined is around 18". So the best way to figure for carpet on steps is to measure the width of the step then the height of the riser and from the crotch of the step to the step nose. then count the number of steps to be covered . so if the carpet is 144" wide (or 12' wide) divide the width of the step into either inches( 34" divided into 144"= 4.24) or footage (3' divided into 12'= 4) so that tells you the number of steps that you can get out of the width . Then you take the riser and step add those two numbers together this will give you length (18" ) multiply that number by the steps being covered (18" x 12= 216" divide by 12"= 18' divide by the 4.24 or 4 =4'6" figure a little over for cutting and trimming purposes (usually 1'6") so the carpet needed should be a 12' x 6' . I hope this helps.
My carpet man told me that stairs on average take the equivalent of a 9' x 12' rug.
