Things for the Kitchen... And Laundry?

Question:I have just moved into an apartment with a television, a computer and cultery set. I have just been giving a fridge/ freezer and a washing machine. I know there are a few more things on the list of "what to get", but can anyone jog my memory for the finer details of a household?

Answers:
I'm sure you've thought of kettle, toaster, crockery, glassware, pots, frying pan. A coffee machine or plunger might be nice. I also use my electric mixer and sandwich maker regularly. Cutting boards and sharp knives are important. Utensils such as can openers, cork screws, wooden spoons, spatulas, whisks. Measuring cups and spoons are handy for new recipes. Then there's mixing bowls, jugs, colanders, strainers, baking trays, cake tins, cooling racks. Think about what you eat and drink during the day and what you would use to make that, make a list, take it to a k-mart or similar, walk the aisles and see what they've got.
Most important for the laundry is a decent iron with a non-stick, easy-glide surface. If your iron is bad ironing takes longer and won't have very good results. You'll need a laundry hamper, washing basket, ironing board, pegs.To keep things clean you'll need a dish drainer and brushes, broom, mop, bucket and if you have carpets, a vacuum cleaner. Cobweb brooms are great as they have extension handles and don't damage ceiling paint the way normal brooms can.
I'm sure there's tons more, which you'll discover as you need them. Hope this helps for a start
Regards,
Mila
