Updating laminate counter top?
Question:What can be used to update my kitchen counter top without replacing it? I have heard that painting is not a good idea, because no matter how good the product is it will become worn with all the wear and tear. Is using a good contact paper an option? Has anyone done this?
Answers:
Stop and think of what your home is worth. Probably, it is the most expensive thing you have ever owned. If you had a $50,000 car, would you put contact paper on the dash?
The only way to do things is to do them right. Anything else looks wrong and is a waste of time and money. Think of the expense as a percentage of your home's value. If you can't afford to do it now, wait. We all live on budgets. At least, when you get it replaced, you'll be happy with the results.
Don't update...Leave it the way it is.I see that you are a woman and women have the crazy notions that updating counter tops is easy and cheap. Do the whole kitchen and hire a contractor to accomplish the task---could be $30,000 but it will be worth it -- cause it will satisfy your need to spend money--tell your friends about the cost. You will be proud of that ego building experience. If I were your husband I would divorce you before I would spend that kind of money on an ego trip. Thats rite an EGO trip. Leave the kitchen alone and live with what is their in the kitchen.
