Glossy Paint looks bad...?
Question:I am not an experience painter and I painted my walls a maroon color which I love but the paint was glossy and with the light reflecting off the walls it looks uneven. Putting another coat over it wont help it will still look uneven so is there anything I can do?
Answers:
Get a clear flat finish to put over it. Varathane makes a flat (or satin) finish that's water base that should do the job with no problems.
This should prevent reflections and even out the surface.
yes ... repaint walls with a primer first and then use a nice oil based paint. not only does it look nice but it is easy to wash without any streaks and it goes on nice and even.
I would recommend just taking some 120 grit sandpaper and doing one quick pass over the entire wall to take off the "sheen" (sheen is the protective part of the paint that makes it shiny").
Quick, Cheap, Effective
Also, please for the love of the planet and your wallet don't use oil based paints. Firstly, you may as well buy cheap brushes because its hella hard to clean oil from brushes and plus, you'd better have alot of ventilation in the room or you will get high from the oil fumes.
USE LATEX
The higher the gloss the more perfect your walls have to be. If the unevenness you are asking about is imperfections you will have to sand the walls with a fine grit sand paper to make them as smooth as poss able, because when light hits it every blemish will show.
Now if the unevenness is in the color with deep pigmented colors even with a good paint you might need up to 5 coats of color to get true and even color.
