Paint Kitchen Counter Tops?
Question:I have that counter top that feels like plastic. It is the most horrible bright hunter green I have ever seen in my life, but cannot currently afford to get new. Is there a counter top paint I can use to update it?

Do not do this. It does not work well at all. Most apartment complexes do this to help "extend" the life of old countertops. Buy new countertops. The process of painting or resurfacing, as they call it, involves spraying on an epoxy resin based product. It sounds strong and it will last for a while if you really baby the surface. You use an HVLP paint sprayer which uses a high velocity low pressure mixture of paint to cover the countertops. In the end it does about as much good as painting an old metal lawn chair. New countertops can be purchased and installed for as little as $4-$500. The cost to do a high quality resurface will cost from $100-200. The choice is yours
In one of the apartments I had previously lived in, the countertops were painted. I'm not sure if they used an incorrect paint type or what, but it was HORRIBLE! Not only did the paint start peeling from the back of the counter (not the top - just along the sides and the back) but it stained INCREDIBLY easily. If you so much as set a loaf of bread on the countertop, the color of the plastic bag the bread was in would stain the counter for weeks. No amount of scrubbing or heavy-duty cleaner would give it a quick clean. After time it would fade.
I'm not sure if there's a better (or even correct) product out there, but just wanted to share my experience with you.
