OOhhhh...white is such a perfect starting point.
I'd hit the resale stores and see what sort of colours you like...maybe doing up a bunch of stainless things...like a stainless toaster and mixer for the counter top, some stainless utensils to hang against a wall.or choose your favourite colours that work with white and accessorize...placemats can be put on the counter to give it colour, a couple of cookie or tea & coffee jars in the same colour scheme.again, some hanging utensils...a vase or two...you can DO so much with white.
Some nice photos in colourful frames on the walls would be really great to pull things together too...and you needn't worry about putting nails into the walls (as it's a council flat), you can use the 3M hooks...they come off really easily.
Cheers.
just buy new doors for all the cupboards.
you can get some nice tile stickers and place them randomly on your tiles, perhaps you can use a border in there too. You can also get plastic sheeting to cover the cupboard doors, they do some really nice designs

Get some one to scrub those cupboard doors again!
You may think they are boring white, but until you clean them you won't know how white they can really be.
You can renew just the doors and drawer fronts. It's not so dear.
You can paint the existing with paints especially made for melamine. It's painstaking but effective.
You can replace the handles with funky ones. It's a quick option.
You can 'stick on' features like mouldings to give an impression that the doors are carved. It's not my choice.
You can come round and do mine first as a trial if you like!!
you can get special cupboard paint - why not try a new bright colour to liven it up - or you could just paint the walls im sure that would make a difference - happy painting x
B&Q do a fabulous paint and grain kit for transforming the cupboard doors. It's very easy and simple to do (I did it and I'm not very mobile or handy around the flat)!
paint it, cheap and easy and anyone can do it
:-)
I can see how you would find white cupboards boring, but they don't have to be if you spice up the room with a bold bright color. For example red walls with white cabinets would look charming. Check out these kitchen designs for ideas:

As monochrome is all the rage just now I'd accessorise with lots of black bits like crockery, appliances etc and just a few things in a bright colour to break it up.
Well, personally, I like white as there is sooo much you can do with the room after but since you don't like the white, have you considered using a faux wood painting technique and painting the cupboards to look like wood? Here's a link that will give you some clues to how to do it:

Painting like this is great... no one will know that it isn't real wood unless you tell them.
If you don't like the idea of painting them, may I suggest contact paper. Nowadays, there is amazing new contact available. You can even get it so it looks like stainless steel! We did this to a condo we were preparing to sell and it was AMAZING!
if you live in a council property then dont worry coz the council are doing the renivations so youll have a brand new kitchen bathroom pvc windows fire place the works i live in newcastle and there already doing them now my mates house is lovely
My missus went to a car accesory shop and got some "Go Faster" stripes for a car.Kinda red stripes, then re-grouted the white tiles with red grout.
