Cost the contractor is paying for concrete per sq. ft?
Question:I have been getting quotes for getting a concrete pool deck as well as a half court basketball court i need filled. The rates are vastly different from contractor to contractor. Lowest i have found is $4 a sq. ft highest $9. I would like to know the ballpark cost they are paying per sq ft for the concrete so i can figure out what they are making on labor costs.

If I understand your question right, you're looking for the material cost, per square foot of concrete? We'd need a bit more information from you to determine this exactly, such as the compressive strength you're looking for, color additives, and even your location.
But I'll make a few assumptions here: 3000 psi concrete, standard gray, 4" thick sidewalk section, deliverable by simply backing the mixer up to the dump location.
Concrete is sold by the Cubic Yard, and I'd say the average cost across the US right now for the mix described above is about $83/cy with taxes. You'll likely get hit with a couple other small charges, such as weekend deliveries, or small load charges.
As decribed above, you get 80 sf per yard at a 4" thick section. So essentially you're looking at $1.15 to $1.25 just for the concrete material delivered and tailgate placed. (Add ~$0.20 extra for wire mesh reinforcing if required).
Labor and materials can run fro $300-$400 a yd. One yd. covers 80 sf at 4" so at the high side its $5 a sf. now that doesn't include re-bar or prepping of the substrate. I would say with all included $7-8 a sf. is a good number
It depends on where you live, but the concrete itself is probably around $1.50 s.f.
