What's the best material for countertops. Granite? Corian? Other?
Question:I'm redoing the kitchen and need opinions on countertops. We are somewhat budget conscious but don't need to have the cheapest out there either. Thanks.

I used to work for the company that manufacturs Corian, Zodiaq, and Granite countertops. If you're looking for resale value, Granite will give you the most bang for your buck but is extremely expensive. Both Corian & Zodiaq are great products...they are far from cheap, but cheaper than Granite. They keep their resale value and are a very long lasting investment. The company that makes these products are great. I suggest you contact them and they can give you all the pros and cons of all the products, send you samples, and help you find what's best for you. Take a look at their website to for additional info:

Granite has the most resale value if you ever sell your home but is expensive.
I really don't know about the cost of granite but it is hard wearing, practical and is a beautiful piece to your counters.
You might consider cement. It is economical, durable, easily repaired and, easy to work with. It can be colored to appear like granite or other materials. Because it is porous, you do need to apply a suitable sealant.
I too just recently remodeled and found a place that sold granite tiles. with the matching counter edge. I am in love with my new kitchen. We were able to greatly reduce the cost and we were able to install it ourselves. Hope that this helps you.
I'd go with concrete, it is durable and one of a kind. If done properly it will increase the value of your home and will give you an excellent smooth flat surface.
Granite or DuPont Zodiaq quartz surfaces(available at LOWES) they are completely durable, easy to care for, stain resistant, and they look great.
