Where should I put my border, at the top of the wall or the middle.?
Question:It is a 6 3/4" border a little larger than the ordinary border which is 4 3/4". The wall will remain the same color and I plan to put it in the kitchen and throughout the living room. It is a twig, berries & stars border. I am going for the country look. Can anyone give some suggestions.
Answers:
I will start out by saying that border is not generally used anymore. It has really gone out of style.
However, if you are intent on using it, I think the best option would be to put it in the middle of the wall where the chair rail is (if you have one great, it will help with levelling it). Borders that are that size, are made to go in the middle. Putting it above the window would not be a great idea. And it would come too far down if you put it at the ceiling.
Have you considered these different ways of placing a border:
1. At the very top where the ceiling meets the wall.
2. At the height of the back of a chair.
3. On the ceiling.
4. At the top of the wall at the height of the top of your windows.
My favorite is the 4th suggestion.
I would suggest the middle. (I'm not partial to border on top of wall unless has wallpaper also.) It will give you the look of having a chair rail. Tack in up in both places and see what you prefer. It will matter with other factors in room. Remember, you have to look at it not me so trust you instinct. Hope it turns out great!
I would say put it at the top of the wall, that way you could hang other pictures or objects at eye level. Good luck!
put at the ceiling unless you have a chair rail, in which case put on top of it
Sorry I hate BORDERS>> they are soooo cheesy.
I way prefer to take the stencils they have in the craft shop and sponge paint it on myself. and the Fact you are REPEATING it into the living area... its a decorators big
NONO! IF you want the living to be connected... paint the walls one of the accent colors from the twigs or berries... plz dont murder your walls.
I agree with the others. I wouldn't even use the border. There are so many other techniques you can use to achieve the country feel. The chair rail with bead board below or even just another paint color below. Stencils are a great idea too. If you don't want your decorating to go out of style i wouln't use a border. They also don't come off easily sometimes. Go and buy a book at your home and garden store, that should give you lots of ideas even if you decide to stay with the border idea.
