Is there a rough guide anywhere to help me with working out quotes for painting and decorating jobs?
Question:any help would really be appreciated
Answers:
A tape measure is about as rough as you can get because all painting and decorating is estimated by area. Most brands of paint indicate the square foot coverage on the product label. You add cost of materials plus labor and get the estimate.

cost of all materials paint, thinners, sandpaper,
tape, plastic cover floors, also a good professional painter will charge any where from 21.00- 26.00 per hr.
Call around to several professionals in your city. This will provide you with the best estimate.
It costs a pretty penny and if you are in a major city you can probably find one at a library...it is called the Means square foot guige and it gives you the average price per sq ft for your geographic area as well as a national average...they give costs for several different trades, there is also a means estimating guide...I am a painting contractor and I get plenty of out of state business so I use the means guide to make sure I bid the job according to what the local rates are ...it is an invalueable tool.
