What order do i renovate my kitchen in?
Question:what comes first! i know we need to pull out old kitchen but then which was around does plastering, plumbing decorating etc come?!
Answers:
I went through a complete kitchen remodel last year using a contractor. Here is the order things happened in.
1. Rip out old appliances, cabinets, flooring, and one whole wall.
2. Rough plumbing installs.
3. Electrical work.
4. Set cabinets.
5. Install granite counter top.
6. Install marble flooring.
7. Bring in appliances.
8. Plumbing hookups.
Make sure you have good plans for your cabinetry as this will mandate the rough plumbing and electrical installation which happens before the cabinets are brought in.
First you want to get together how much you can afford and what is the best in its range for your budget. I would go to somewhere like MFI they will give you different designs and also allow you to check products in store see if they are to your taste. Then they will all set it up give you a plan and it goes from there. I would do many google searches first!
Rip it out
Plumbing
electrics
plastering
refit
decorating
Is how ours went but the company will have their own routine I guess
plumb
plaster
paper and paint
U should ask a professional.
conatact somehwere like bnq or wickes who will do you a free survey with a plan and a costing. Then its upto you to decide whether you will you use their tradesman or get your own
You need a permit first. Draw a kitchen design so you can plan on the position of the new cabinets and island. Hire plumbing and electrical sub contractors. Order the new cabinets, sink, flooring, counter tops, and appliances, etc. Rent a dumpster.
Keep the sink, refrigerator and stove in the same location unless you know how to move or expand plumbing lines. If you move a gas stove, you will need to call the utility company to move the gas line.
After removing the old kitchen to the dumpster, resurface the walls first. If you are not adding more space to the kitchen, you may not have to replace the sheet rock. Paint the ceiling. Paint the walls and trim where the large appliances and cabinets will go first.
Install the cabinets, sink and counter tops. Install exhaust hood and light fixtures. Put large appliances in place. Call a plumber to install the sink and hook up for the ice maker in the fridge. All bathrooms and kitchens must have ground fault outlets and switches. Call an electrician to do this job.
Finish painting the walls and trim. Since you did not specify type of flooring, this step may be out of place. Vinyl, wood or laminate flooring will be installed earlier. Install tile flooring next.
You did not mention if you are changing the windows or doors. If you do, hire a professional. Obviously, this step comes before prepping the walls.
Do touch up painting. Vacuum up dust and wipe down counters, etc. as you work. Add window treatments and decorative touches.
Remember to measure everything twice to avoid costly mistakes. Practice safety by using goggles to protect your eyes.
after stripping out you need to make good the walls, prepare the floor for tiling etc., give the walls a mist coat of paint and then fit the kitchen, don't forget to allow for the thickness of your flooring when determining the height of the worktops or you might struggle to get the white appliances under.
The proper order is:
Think it out, (Changing your minds now is cheaper than later.)
Buy and take delivery of all parts, (Don't fiddle with them.)
Rip out the old stuff as close to bonfire night as possible.
Sort out all plumbing, and electrical ground work.
Fit new units.
Connect plumbing, get a qualified man for the electrics.
fix any plastering and tiling.
Smack the wrist of any female who thinks it time to place a vase of flowers on the new worktops, make a brew of coffee and sit on the floor to drink it and admire the job whilst each blames the other for forgetting to buy new chairs. Go outside and have a barbeque rather than mess up the new kitchen ...
Have fun........ Pat
