Any ideas on how to decorate a music room in my house? (please read details!)?
Question:My boyfriend and I both play bass and would like to designate a room within our home as the "music room". We've already decided to hang our bases on wall stands and have a drum set and keyboards in the room, but what else can we put up to decorate it and give it a mature, creative feel?
Answers:
Do you have a favorite song or group in common? Paint the lyrics or song titles as a border or randomly around the room.
Frame old album covers - purchase at any second hand music or thrift store.
Make a wall collage out of Rolling Stone (or other music magazine covers). Frame articles about your favorite bassist (i.e. Paul McCartney / John Entwistle). Use floating frames (found at Bed Bath & Beyond, World Market, etc.) and hang in groups of 3 or more. The more wall space you cover, the more impressive. I did this with 12 Time Magazine covers and get "WOW!" every time someone sees it. I think I ordered them from allposters.com
A collage of concert tickets could also be framed, or if you have many, you could cover a small table or trunk with them (as you could with magazine cut-outs, for that matter).
Modge Podge works wonders and you can get it at any craft store, or even Walmart. Just use the Modge Podge to glue it on, coat it in Modge Podge (more coats make thicker cover) then finish off with any clear spray paint. The collages look best if cut around the shapes (heads, arms, guitars, etc.).
Hope this helps get your creativity flowing.
Posters of Jimi Hendrix are always good.

I am not that creative, but I am an engineer, and I'd take acoustics into account in such a room. Put fabric on the walls and lots of wall and ceiling hangings to keep sound from bouncing around. Carpet on the floor and acoustic ceiling tile are good ideas too.

In a quick look, I saw lamps with keyboard shades, among other things. I found it by googling music-themed artwork.
There were plenty of other sites, but this will get you started.
What color is the room?
You can change the mood of the room by just changing the color.
I liked the idea of framing old album covers to hang on the wall. Old sheet music is good for that too, especially if you can find the really old ones that are more decorated then the newer ones.
I'd stay away from the obvious, what I call kitchy stuff, like musical notes, or anything to do with the musical staff. (?) as far as accessories are concerned.
If you have enough room, have some nice comfy chairs and lots of plants, big, floor plants and plants on stands. Have a bookshelf dedicated to old and new music books, and maybe add prints of portraits of your favorite composers.
You might try looking for an inexpensive oriental style rug for the center of the room.
When I think of music rooms, I usually think of Victorian style, so I don't know if you want to incorporate some of that into your room (that would be the rug and the plants and plant stands).
