Real cherry lumber varies from dark, almost walnut to light, almost birch. Most real cherry furniture is finished medium reddish like mine. Although cream eggshell is most commonly used, you could have more variety with darker colors such as a khaki or grey and still stay neutral.
I would stay away from light green, blue, yellow, red, and orange if the tone was medium, but if it is the true dark or light tones, almost anything will work.
the only thing I would stay away from is a yellow-based brown b/c they'll clash (made this mistake myself). If you go for a brown, make sure it's red-based.

mauve, cream, dusty rose, seafoam green, salmon pink
Sage green or a red crushed pepper.
The Good Lady Wife used a dark green, almost Hunter Green, on our kitchen cabinets. With Shaker pattern cherry doors it looks pretty smart.
