I'm redecorating in an old house and believe i've come across lead paint, has anyone got any advice about it?
Question:like how to safely remove it or whether it is ok to paint over?its in my babies room so i'd like to know
Answers:
Removing lead paint with a blowlamp, whereby you are likely to breath in lead laden fumes is not ideal. Eating the woodwork and therefore the lead paint, is not ideal. I don't think removing the lead paint with anything like "nitromors" paint stripper is ideal either. If you want the room lead free, replace skirtings/architrave etc with new. Or, if you're confident your baby won't eat the woodwork, just paint over it with modern lead free paints, but, to be on the safe side, wear a dust mask and hoover up well if you sandpaper it first.
prime with a bonding primer such as Ici's gripper it can be purchased at home depot and then paint with two coat of good quality latex paint that should take care of your lead based paint problem
There are many points of view on this one. Scanning this article points to using paint stripper.

Check the section " Minimising Your Risk"
your being a bit paranoid and worrying about somthing that need'nt concern you. if you were a painter sanding down all day then maybe you should have concerns. just rub down the woodwork (wear a mask if you like ) undercoat and top coat. job done. the risk of any poisoning are miniscule.
