Beautiful Wood Floors-with paint drippings all over (HELP)?
Question:I want to restore the wood floors luster and remove the paint drippings but was told it would cost close to $3,000.00 and be cheaper to put carpet over them instead.
Any suggestions on how to strip paint and retain the luster without breaking the bank?
Answers:
Well, can you remove the paint and be satisfied? If you want to restore the wood floors, they must be sanded down, then stained and sealed, or just sealed. This is a big project, but is doable if you have patience and alot of elbow grease.
Are your floors currently polyurethaned or waxed? If they are waxed you may be able to put a coat of cleaner wax on before you put on the wax. Bruce made a good cleaner, and I always used Johnsons Paste Wax before I broke down and got my floors refinished.
Some other options are clean up the paint and get some pretty area rugs.
I don't see how it is cheaper to put down carpet, unless you out down a really cheap carpeting. If you refinish the floors they should last 5-10 years with just cleaning, and to get carpet that would last that long would cost about the same as refinishing.
I personally do not like carpet, its dirty, dusty, harder to clean, harbors dirt and dust, once you shampoo it you have to keep shampooing the track areas frequently.
Good luck!
if latex paint simply used a scrubbing brush with mild soap water
if enamel used mineral spirit and damp your cloth with some on it and rub it in
as soon it remove get some windshield washer in a spray bottle and rinse dry the spot
make sure not to used a polyester cloth, the friction might set fire to the rag.

if there is not a lot of paint drippings get some denatured alcohol and rub the paint off,you will not harm the floor ,if the paint is relativly fresh, if the drippings are extensive or are years old ,you have no choice but to get the floors re buffed and re sealed.
