How much does it cost to make a room bigger by 2x8 ft?

Question:

Answers:
Depends on which side of the room you're adding it to. Look at your roof. Are you adding an additional roof joist or 2? Or are you going to try extending it past the ends of the existing roof joists?

Are you in the North where you'll have to dig deep footings? Or are you in the South where the water table is at 3 feet? Maybe you just plan to bumpout the existing wall and use pillars to hold up the addition?

What kind of floor do you need to marry the addition to? Obviously it's easier if you're carpeting over it, but if you're doing hardwood, that adds to the cost because the new floor has to be very level with the old floor...tricky.

No construction is "cheap", but there are a lot of tricky little things in this that make it hard to give you a good number. I say find a few good carpenters in the area and get quotes. It's only a week's project for 2 guys if they're motivated. But don't be surprised if they quote between $5-10,000 depending on what they find.

Labor costs depend where you live--labor unions---contractor. There is engineering to make sure the house will not fall down if the wall is removed before the new wall is built...Then their is your tollerance to have you house torn up for more than 6 to 8 months before it is finished. Down in Florida---building a new home is about $100 per square for contractors. ---I would estimate about $4000--depending if someone wanted to take on a small job. Maybe $6-$7000 because it is a small job.
