What color schemes are good for a single male bachelor in a small 1 bedroom condo?

Question:I've been thinking about darker colors, but someone told me that makes your condo look smaller.

Answers:
Pick a color you love. Flip through some design magazines to get some ideas. Frankly, I love painting smaller rooms darker colors because they make me feel cozier.

stick with sepia tones, warm browns and tans allow for a more masculine look, while also allowing in light. You never want to make a small room smaller by adding a dark color.

you can also get great wall art in sepia tones these days.

(and for the future.if you evey have a lady move in with you...she can add her own feminine touches without having you remodel the whole place.)
Not really, I have dark colours through my house and it's not any smaller or bigger, it looks great. I would choose a dark red or a dark grey with dark wood frames. Big in sex in the city painted one of his walls red and he was single
My favorite colors for bachelors are ivory, red, browns and blacks. Check out PierOne for accent pieces for your walls and tables. keep the walls ivory and then the furniture and accent pieces hold the bold colors. It's also more practical down the road when you're ready for a change. Consider pillows, wall art, bowls, rugs, candles and accent plants for color. Everything moves with you!
They are right, the darker the colour the smaller the room looks, also make the ceiling at least one shade lighter to give the appearance of a high ceiling.

For drapes use sheers to let the light in, you can have heavier drapes over them to the side for privacy when you need it and when they are open they will pull all your colours together, so get them to match your colour scheam.

When I had my house decorated professionally the decorator told me a trick, make your walls the main colours you like and decorate with furniture. You will change your furniture more then you will repaint. Either by moving it or replacing it or accenting it with things like throw pillows.

You can have accent walls, when they did my dining room they made one wall "Brick Red" and the other 3 a shade of tan, I thought it would look awful but once the drapes went in with the same accents and the furniture it actually looks amazing and it makes the room look larger with the darker accent wall. But if you do go with dark colours only one wall per room or it will look too small.

Another trick to making a room look larger is if you are putting in hardwood floors, put it at a 45 degree angle, it gives the room an appearance of being larger.

Anyway have fun with it!
The first question is what do you like ,,, If you want dark colors on the wall just balance it out with lighter colors on the furniture and sofa pillows. Remember it is just paint so if you paint it and don't like the effect you can always re paint . But it should be something that you really like. Take in to consideration the flooring color, is it carpet or hardwood? Make everything flow together and it will look nice.
Use brown and blue. The brown will be rich and warm, the blue will balance it with cooler tones.

The next option would be greens and taupe. These are a little more vibrant. If color really isn't your thing, go to a paint store and ask someone there for color advice. Also, go to a store like Crate & Barrell or Pottery Barn for inspiration. They are usually not too girly and salespeople will help you figure it out.

Better yet... hire a designer! Or ask a girl to help you. Girls love to do that.

Also...contrary to what some people have told you, DON'T choose your paint colors first. You can pick or mix any paint color to match/blend with your furniture and objects in the space, but objects and furniture are harder to find.
I agree that you should go to a couple of stores like Crate n Barrell, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Pier 1 and see what colors you are attracted to in artwork, pillows, rugs, linens, etc. Crate n Barrell has some awesome pictures right now with vibrant colors. Once you find something like a picture that you like, you can based your color scheme around it. I like the sound of one brick red wall with taupe or tan on the rest of the walls, but you may like blue instead, so it's what you like. As someone said, you can balance the light & dark by using the opposite for walls (say light color) with dark furniture/artwork, pillows, drapes, etc. or vice versa. Good Luck and do what YOU like.
