Can i varnish my laminate flooring?
Question:i have wooden floor throughout my home but in my babys nursery i have put whitewashed wood(effect) laminate floor but i would like to have a polished look to it. (it looks lovely when the floor is wet) could i use 'yatch varnish' or maybe 'Klear' polish or the polish they use to do the school assembly halls
Answers:
I personally wouldn't go near it with varnish. It may take and look amazing initially, but with wear I'm sure it will chip away. I'd be more inclined to use Klear or something similar as it can be vashed off and reapplied when necessary.
No, it has a coating on it that will not allow the varnish/polish to stay.
If you have an scraps of this flooring left, try it. I would use
a water based polyurethane with a gloss finish. But test it
first so if it doesn't work, you have not ruined the floor.
it would need to be lightly sanded first but as it it not real wood the effect may not be to good
The answer to the above is maybe
Remember putting liquids like "Klear" on the floor weakens the joints
You can get in B+Q and similar sheds a spray polish which is close to what you are looking for. Not quite as shiny as "Klear" but close
Also be aware that putting "Klear" on laminat is not the same as putting it on vinyl or wood, it becomes very slippery and with young children that could be dangerous
