What is the minimum clearance above a sealed gas log fireplace for a wood mantle?

Question:

Answers:
Post your manufacturer/model number and I can send you the clearance chart. Each one is different and a lot of it depends on the depth of your mantle.

If you mean a "direct vent" fireplace (glass front,) then a mantle can be located about 9" minimum above the top of the upper louvers. I would suggest, however, that you look behind the bottom louvers (where the valve is located, where you turn the pilot off and on) for the "rating plate," which will tell you the model number of the fireplace. Then hit the internet, probably Google will work, and find the manual for the firplace. While a 9" minimum SHOULD cover you, each direct vent fireplace is unique in its specifications, especially as concerns clearance to combustibles.
