Places to Rent: Whats bigger and whats the difference?
Question:whats the difference out of these three?
which places are bigger?
Lets say they are all 3 bedroom:
1. Appartments
2. Townhouse
3. Garden home

None of these terms gives any indication of size, you have to look at square footage of the home and whether the square footage of each room is how you want it. For example, a walk in closet in each bedroom adds up in the total square footage of the house but if you have only a 900 sq foot place, and a closet sized living room, then those walk in closets aren't quite so luxurious, are they? Instead it just reads as a remodel waiting to happen, a gross misappropriation of space...same with lots of hallways...handy sometimes, can be a space waster if the layout is not smart. SO it boils down to getting a walkthrough of potential places and seeing if the space is where you need it.
Re the type of space, a townhouse is a small living space, usually connected to another unit (like row houses or duplexes, or more units), that has both an upstairs and a downstairs. So if you have equal square footage you have to budget in for the stairwell and the rooms will be smaller in a townhouse. An apartment is usually one level and many apartments, even large ones, make pretty efficient use of space, even small square footage. Garden home, not sure, it kind of implies that there is some outdoor living space with it, in which case I would make sure if the square footage includes patios, balconies, or porches.

None of those necessarily mean larger or smaller by name alone. An apartment can be 2000 square feet and a townhouse can be be 1200 or just the opposite. The only way to know the size is to ask the person renting the units what the actual square footage is for each one.
