Is there anyway to make you mattress softer?

Question:I have a somewhat firm mattress, and i hate firm mattresses. i want my mattress to be softer.. is there any way to break it in somehow like jumping on it daily? i know that sounds strange, but honestly i'm desperate. i can't afford a new mattress either.

Answers:
i used to work at a furniture store and this was a problem with some of our customers. I ended coming up with a solution that required little or no money.. there is no way to make it softer unless you do what you said, JUMP. but you can buy (if don't already have one) a deep fitted sheet. Place one of your extra conforters, or any thick blanket underneath and then add the fitted sheet. That should make things a little softer without having to go out and spend another 100.00's of dollars on a new mattress. Good Luck!

Invest in a mattress pad...you can find one for a hundred bucks or less.
Get those foam things to put on your bed
Hire a 400lb man to sleep on it for 7 days and 7 nights.
put that stuff you you put in pillows when sewing underneath you know that cotton stuff
use clothes softener.. like softlan, comfort and lots more at the supermarket..
You can use foam over your mattress. I actually like using an inflatable mattress over my regular mattress and regulate how hard or soft I want it.
If you jump on it, you'll just wear it out. Best thing to do is buy a pad. I like memory foam, but those pads can get expensive. There are cheaper foam pads.
mattress pad
I have a mattress toper, it is a sponge foam material very soft, I use mine because some springs were coming through, those pointy tips you can't see but you can feel.

The toper is very soft and comfortable I wouldn't want my bed without it.

It looks like egg cartons all bumps but very soft.

I bought it at K-Mart it wasn't too expensive really. I did get a cheap one, they do have ones that are expensive but the cheap one feels good.
JC Penney's offers a memory foam pad covering which I've heard is very comfortable. It is not as expensive as you might think. Go online to access their inventory and see if it is within your price range.

I hope you find what you need. I'm not comfortable on hard mattresses either and so, I understand.
Use an eggshell foam mattress cover / sleeping pad. It makes your mattress feel really comfortable.
You can purchase a mattress cover and then the best way to make it softer is to buy really good sheets- the higher the thread count the better. They can be expensive though- but well worth it. Depending on your mattress size a matress cover on sale could cost about $25.00 and then the sheets(450-500 thread count) could cost about $40-$60.00 on sale at places like JC Penney, Macys, wait until they go on sale! Before you put them on your bed wash them( in delicate cycle) and add some softener. They make all the difference in the world! My girlfriend got me hooked on them. She even went to a Goodwill store and found some really nice sheets-just be sure to wash them really good(still in delicate) maybe twice. LOL You can always ask for assisistance at the thrift stores-women can always pick out better quality stuff much easier than men!
I bought a pretty cheap foam matress for like $15.00, ones alright, but if you get two of them it's really soft and won't cost you but $30.00
they sell those bed pads or whatever theyre called in almost any store. they do not cost that much. like walmart is a good place. or jc penny.
If you can't afford a good mattress pad, then the answer is No. Don't buy a cheap one, it won't make any difference in the softness of your firm (hard) mattress.
I slept on a firm (hard) mattress for almost 2 years. It was so hard, I felt bruised in the morning if I slept on my side. I hated it so much. I got a new mattress pad, it was inexpensive and did nothing to change the comfort of the bed. A friend of mine recommended getting a down filled mattress pad. I knew they were expensive and didn't have the money at the time, but looked every time I was out shopping anyway. I looked for quite a few months, then one day I got lucky. I found one at Wal-Mart that had been marked down to ten dollars from $65.00!!
It was filled with real Down, but it was marked full size and I needed a Queen. At that price, I decided to get it anyway. As I walked down the aisle, I spotted a queen size, it was filled with a down alternative, and was 20.00 marked down from 45.00. I wasn't sure which one to get, the 10.00 one that was smaller but might work or the 20.00 Queen size, so I put them both in the cart. When I got to the checkout, I asked the cashier why the the big difference in the mark down price on the two, before I could say anything else she says. "Oh, well if that one is marked down to 10.00 then this one should be too" I bought both of them and left the store real quick! I actually felt guilty as if I just stole them!
When I got home I put the full size down cover on my queen bed, it fit perfect! The Queen size down alternative cover is a fitted pad and fits perfect over the other one, which is great because it can be washed and the other one can't, which is the reason I would recommend getting the down alternative over the real down. Both are nice and soft and it feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud now!!
Now to solve your problem!
My advice is, for you to do the same as I did, look for marked down deals in department stores. They don't advertise them so you just have to go there often and look. Target, K-Mart and most of the discount stores have them.
Good Luck, I hope you are as lucky as I was finding a great deal but doesn't take as long as it did me!
