What are pros and cons on hard wood and carpet flooring?

Question:i live in a 20 year old house. it has hard wood floors.! i hate it! ( im only a kid of the family of 4). i hate the way it looks, because its old and dusty. and im not cleaning it because my father said he's not getting carpet. SOMEONE GIVE ME THE GOOD AND BAD THINGS ABOUT HARDWOOD FLOORS AND THE GOOD AND BAD THINGS ABOUT CARPET AND TELL WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE.

Answers:
Hardwood: Pro - more beautiful in my opinion, though depends on the quality, color, and style. There are actually many variations to wood, even bamboo as another variant. Easy to clean.
Con - can scratch if you have pets. Hard. Not something you really want to lie down on and roll around on unless you put a rug on top.

Carpet: Pro - nice and soft, also comes in many different styles, types, colors. Cost. Carpets can be very cheap, but the more expensive ones are more expensive than wood.

Cons - stains with spills unlike hardwood.

Generally, I perfer hardwood in common areas of the house like kitchen, living room, dining room, foyer. I prefer carpet in bedrooms and upstairs (more quiet than if you have wood upstairs).

Hard wood is more durable and more valuable when you sell the house. I personally like carpet, it's more homey to me, but more expensive in the long run. Maybe he'll carpet your room for you? That would be a compromise... Also, he can always refinish it, which is not that expensive and it will look like a new floor.
Well i would prefer hardwood floors because its more durable than carpet.Much better if you have pets as well.I would go with carpet in bedrooms and stairways, tile in bathrooms,Hardwood floors in kitchen, living room.
Mainly allergies, carpets attract and hold lots of dirt and mites etc.

You need to consult a hardwood floor maintenance company.

Good Luck
I have hardwood--and personally love them. Easier to clean up than carpet--generally doesn't stain when kids spill red kool aid on it--and all I really do is sweep and mop with vinegar and water. If you don't like the look of hardwood--just get rugs. You can get a rug rather inexpensively, if you look around. And, rugs are much easier to change than a carpet.
