How much should be charged (labor only) for installing an entry door?
Question:32", pre-hung, steel door. I have to remove the old one and install the new one, which the customer has already purchased. Assume that it will fit without triming the adjacent siding, and that there is no inside trim. Caulking and puttying will be included.
Answers:
That'll depend on where you live. We charge $250 for a simple demo and install of an exterior door, with caulking, shimming, and minor trim adjustment included. Keep in mind that many areas may require a permit to replace exterior doors.
the cost of the door should be the same as labor.
Go to a Lowes or other big center and ask them what they would charge you to put one in.
Bid lower on the charge to get the job.
You do need to ask for a bit extra tomake a profit, but not too much that it will keep you from being competitive in that field.
In this day and age, I would say twenty to twenty five dollars an hour is acceptable. I would charge twenty five dollars and if the customer gripes then, without telling him, he should learn how to do it himself. That's the thing with repair work, the dumb customer gripes and the expert does the work without griping.
i was quoated a price of $130 dollars for labor to install a door..plus extra material , that was from Lowes...each area might be different price so check with them ,,i am sure each place has an instaltion team to do these so check around
You know - I realize that this seems like a high price - but 200-300 dollars is not out of the ballpark. Just remember - this is a construction job that is best left to professionals. Installing entry doors can be difficult and you want the best safety for your buck. It must line up with your locks and fit so that there are no gaps. Good Luck!
Mine is a 36 inch with 12 inch side panels with cut glass in the door and side panels.
It was $500.00 to remove two old 32" and install the new one and sides.
This is just to give you a clue of how much it shouldn't be.
I cannot conceive it would be more than $200.00.
$200
