What's the best (and easiest) way to decorate my apartment when I can't make any "permanent" changes?
Question:Hey all!
If you've ever rented a house or apartment, you know that there are only so many renovations and changes you can make to your surroundings before you forfeit your deposit or you get fined. I want to spruce up my apartment with "earthy" tones and decorations but most of my ideas would require painting or punching big holes in walls. Have any suggestions??

Target sells temporary wall designs on their website (or used to). You could hang large cloths ( I bought patterned ones from BB&B, but IKEA has some, too.) Use furniture in colors to offset white walls.
buy a painting or something that you really like and base your room off of it..i always do it and it comes out really good.
Lots of prints and maybe a few rugs is the way to go imo. I have painted apartments before and just painted them back to the original color before I left but... tis a good amount of work if your not going to be there long.

yes .here is one main change you can make.how about getting some sheeting material whatever earth tone you like best and measure 3 times the measurement of each wall.then gather the material on rods.that covers the whole wall space ..this will give you a very soft and relaxing mood...to the room. Then add other textures like twig baskets...and textured covered pillows.this way when you leave the material goes with you to your next home..good luck...Mama Jazzy Geri
in a rental you can paint but you have to return the walls back to white when moving. a hard a tedious job. what i did in one room to add color was to paint a 2'x3' square in the color i wanted and framed the square with a fabric ribbon using decoratice push pins to hold the ribbon frame in place. the frame covered the bleeding from the paint. i then hung framed pictures on the colored part. it looks way cool. i did different sizes on 3 of the walls. all fairly small and easy to cover when i move. only needed to paint that area vs. the whole room. cost me about 15.00 for paint (only used a pint size can) ,ribbon and picture frames at walmart. use a color that matches your bedding and accessories. on one of the wall squares i hung wall candles and the other two i hung pictures
Hi,
Don't paint...too much work to have to repaint back to the original color when you move out.
Go with pictures, wall hangings, throw pillows, rugs on the floor (even over the carpet)). These things will spruce up a room and not cause you to forfeit you deposit.
Furniture can do this too. Shop at yard sales, auctions and thrift stores. If you like it, you can get it cheaply there. Decorate; accessories. Check out HGTV.com for more ideas.
Good Luck!
You can do it!!!
You should be able to paint your apartment...some landlords ask that if you do paint to just paint it again before you move out. Nails in walls are normal wear and tear .
I live in an apartment and I chose earthy tones as well. I bought shelves for the dining room and really played up the apt. with accents that I can remove.
I was lucky that my apt. ( and landlord ) had a lot of charector already so I just added to it.
Some inspiration could be taken from decorating magazines especially focusing on apts.
If u dont mind a portion of your security deposit being taken out, i say paint it and let them repaint it white when you leave. Also, fabric is a good way to spruce up walls without painting. Artwork, plants, pictures, water fountains and vases can add to your space. If you dont want to paint, put lots of "earthy" pictures on the walls. but, personally, I say...GO AHEAD AND PAINT. you wont be happy until you do!!
