Is it better to have a single or double handled bathtub faucet?
Question:I am leasing a 1920's bungalow house. As a part of the rental agreement, any work I do to the house is deducted from the rent. Anyway, I purchased a double handled faucet for the bathtub (1 for hot, 1 for cold) that fits in with the style of the house. I was going to install it myself. However, the homeowner hired his own plumber. My landlord said the do it yourself work I've done is of good quality, but takes too long. The plumber he hired said that two faucet handles are "just asking for trouble". However, I don't trust his opinion, based on what I have read. Is it true? Am I better off with a single handled faucet. (I hate this style! They look like they belong in a hotel, not a historic house!)
Answers:
So much easier to adjust the water temp with a single handle rather than double. Plus a double handled faucet has double the parts to replace, like gaskets.
The decision maker is going to be replacing it with a similar style that is there now, otherwise you are going to have to change some plumbing.
That may be what the plumber is basing his opinion on.
This is a rental and I realize you want to make it "home". The landlord is the one who is paying and will have the ultimate say so. In other words your/our opinion isn't going to matter much. Sorry....
A single spout is the only way to go. Having hot on one side and cold on the other is a pain.
