Hi, here are some ideas that might help. You said your bedroom has black floor tiles. Black does tend to make a room look smaller. Rather than get rid of the tiles paint your walls a soft grey colour with an eggshell finish and paint your baseboards and trim a lighter shade of the grey.Repaint the ceiling with a white ceiling paint. The living room should be painted a taupe colour with all white trim and the ceiling as well. If you can, buy some crown moulding to install around the living room right below the ceiling and paint it the same colour as the ceiling. If you windows in the living room avoid drapes and try and buy some cheap shutters and paint them white also. You can go a little crazy with colour with accent pillows and vases etc. that you can pick up at a flea market. You don't say what colour your furniture is but the taupe will go with anything. The kitchen I'm afraid you'll just have to freshen up with a coat of paint / The cupboard you could remove the door and put a really nice curtain and buy a small area to match. Good luck hope this helps.

Use alot of mirrors!
1) use mirror - not too many or else you'll scare yourself
2) no dark color - the darker it is the smaller the space
3) no big stuff - such as big table, big lamp, etc
G'Day Pye,
Riverrat is quite correct pick your largest wall and use mirror tiles, make sure to get the bevelled edge ones as they reduce the risk of cutting yourself on the edges. Then paint the whole place white, with trim colour of your choice, the rooms will have a nice and spacious appearance. The darker the colour you use the smaller the room will appear, plus using white has the added benefit that any colour furnishings will go with it.
I lived in a really small house a few years ago and as much as I resisted the idea of painting everything white, when I finally did, I was amazed at how big the house looked.

I know that white sounds really boring, but for small spaces, white paint is the way to go. Add color with curtains, pillows, bed linens, rugs, or things you already own. A fresh coat of paint always makes you feel better about any size space.
for the low budget:
1. remove all clutter and unused furniture and items...
2. use light or/and dull colors if you like these colors with concentration on the warm colors for cossiness...
3. even if you use dark or/and bright colors avoid strong contrast...
4. mirrors...
5. get some cheep double duty stuff, or better use things for more than they are for... be creative in that area...
6. clever storage...! like under beds and sofas, or using some shelves...
Good luck... I love small spaces, quite a challenge...
Paint all the rooms the same color - or within a shade of each other to create more visual "flow" or connection. No dark paint! White trim/molding near the ceiling can make a room appear taller as can hanging the curtains above the window sill. Maybe an almond/wheat or pale green?

Get rid of the black floor tiles if you can! Wood looks homey and the newer laminates are easy to install. If you can't afford that than a good rug in a lighter color would help.

Small kitchens can look really cute! Even if it's not much of one you need to define it as the kitchen area. Perhaps a dividing curtain or screen - or if that makes it look smaller at least different curtains/fabrics and a small bistro style table will help. Something vintage?
