Can you intall an electric oven in a kitchen that has prev had gas without mains supply directly into the appt
Question:I have just bought an appartment and am looking to install a new kitchen. The appartment building is old and does not have mains supply directly into individual appartments just to a main switch board thingy. I want to put an electric wall oven in but have been told that I will not be able to do this because of the electrical requirements. Can someone please tell me if this is true or if there is something I need to look at to establish whether or not I can do this?
Answers:
Electric ovens require large amounts of electricity, usually 30 to 50 amps of 220volt power. Many old buildings can't support this kind of demand without a major upgrade. The previous answer is correct, you should have a licensed electrician evaluate your situation. If your electrical main can handle the load it may be possible to add a dedicated circuit.
I would think all you have to do is have an electrician come in and install a wall socket for it.
