Staining a pine staircase - problems with glue?

Question:We've just finished a staircase and have glue residue (D3 PVA) on the pine that we wanted to stain. It wasn't obvious before we stained but it is now! I did sandpaper before I stained, but I've a feeling the glue has penetrated deep into the wood. Is there any way this gluey wood will take a stain?

Answers:
Any surface/joint overspill you are best to gently/carefully remove with a sharp wood chisel, sand those areas lightly afterwards. Other than that there is little you can do as glue that has penetrated the wood grain won't come out now without removing wood as well. You might also try "tweeking any suspect areas with an artists type brush and stain, adding/removing, until you get the best result you can.

No - you're stuffed. But I would disguise it - make it look like you did it on purpose - somehow.
I suggest finding a color of paint you like or cover the stairs with carpet. Nothing short of replacing the pieces of wood with glue on them will work. Sorry.
