ohhhh black sheets - white comforter and splash color around the room with accent pillows with fringe - check out 2nd hand stores for those accents!
feather boas to line the back of your shelves would be cool and marilynish... there are really fuzzy new yarns (craft/fabric stores) that you could get in place of heavy feather boas.. they come in all sorts of colors and if you have a glue gun GO WILD!
