About House warming etiquette?
Question:My family and I are moving into a new home I want to show it off with a housewarming party.
My Friend said that it is OK to register for towels ect.small things that I need. She said that people will appreciate knowing what I want. Do people even give gifts for such a party.
I have never heard of that.. what do you all think?
Answers:
I thinks that's ok. Had my house warming recently & I put it out to guests that I prepare gifts of shopping vouchers. As my home is themed, I really do not want gifts that do not "gel" with the style.
All guests were fine & gave vouchers, save the few who did not find time to get them, they brought some wine & foodstuff instead.
No you don't register. That's just wrong. People normally buy you things like plants, candles, or liquor.
While people do normally receive gifts for housewarming parties, I have never heard of registering. If you do this you may be seen as greedy.
I wouldn't register for gifts. Then it seems like that's the only reason you are having the party.
Where I come from, people do give gifts for a housewarming. But I've never heard of anyone registering. Usually, people bring over a bottle of wine or ask you what you would like. Whenever people ask me, I tell them that it isn't necessary. If they insist, I tell them I'd love a green plant! That always works out well and the plants always fit into my decor. And that's also what I bring to a housewarming party. It's always acceptable to bring or receive a plant for a housewarming.
