Advice on wallpapering bathroom?
Question:I am wallpapering my bathroom and have a few questions. how long do I have to wait between hanging lining paper and hanging the wallpaper?
The bathroom is very small and has no window, I am a bit worried that the wallpaper may come loose with all the heat and steam, does anyone have any tips or advice to avoid this happening?

hi
the wall paper probably will come off with the steam. bathrooms are not really designed for wallpaper, if you have already lined the walls why don't you paint them and put up some modern pictures for a really fresh and uncluttered look
I wouldn't wallpaper a bathroom!
If its very small why not tile it. Wallpaper, in a confined room will peel off constantly, so you may find you are doing it up time after time. save yourself the never ending task by tiling.
No wall papers in bath room . Consider the alternates like mild painting and some bath room wares to attract .
i would tile the bathroom especially if it is small also i would get a couple of the mirror tiles too,i would make the bathroom look bigger ,tiling would seal the walls looks great easy to clean no mess and no peeling wallpaper, get some estimates see what you think, good luck silver fox.
hmmm the wallpaper will deffo come loose. Not a good idea!
tile it resistant to water
I wouldn't wallpaper a bathroom - it will prob peel off and you may get mould around the edges of the paper.
I used to have a very small bathroom but I couldn't afford tiles so I painted it, with kitchens and bathrooms paint, a very pale cream colour and sponged a slightly darker shade of the same colour over it completely - this gave it a sort of textured look.
It looked great, nice and clean and fresh, and I was surprised how many people had to feel it because they thought it was wallpaper!
Good Luck
Yes, the wallpaper will come lose with all that heat and steam - duh. You don't wallpaper a bathroom!
Two options:
1) I would recommend that you choose a vinyl wallpaper, all of which are waterproof, and be very careful about the wallpaper paste that you use. Choose only the very best quality paper and paste and make a good strong adhesive mix. Also, use extra adhesive on the edges (border adhesive) to ensure that all the edges are firmly stuck down. My parents had vinyl wallpaper in their bathroom that I put up for them for years without any trouble, but their bathroom was well ventilated, which is the key to getting rid of excess moisture. So ensure you have a fan installed and run this for at least 10mins after you have had a bath or shower.
2) If you cannot stand the thought of a vinyl wallpaper put up a plain coloured paper and varnish the wallpaper to make it water proof - you can get lots of special varnishes these days that can be applied over paper or paint to create special effects of sparkle or sheen. You still need to take care over pasting the edges though.
if you are using blown vinyl you dont need to line the walls if you use border adesive it will be very difficult to remove in the future just use pollycell and seal top and bottom of paper with silicon sealant to stop condesation creeping underneath
You will find that people get obsessed with sealing paper in bathrooms. It's a myth. They must think the places are like swimming pools?
You only need to line walls for 2 reasons :
1) Because some papers must go on lining paper, it will say so with the instructions.
2) Walls are quite bad, even after filling.
Put the lining paper on horizontally so the seams don't hit the seams of the top paper. Start at the top with the lining paper. Any bits of wall where 1 vertical bit will cover the wall can be hung vertically.
You can paper next day. Just check the soaking time for the paper. Paste it, fold it and then wait that time then hang. Just use standard wallpaper paste mixed to manufactures instructions for type of paper.
Wallpaper in council houses for old people is put on with border adhesive and nigh-on impossible to get off.
