Wood laminate next to vinyl floor?

Question:We need to get rid of the carpet in our living room and dining area. (it is SO dirty...been through 2 puppies) Our house is an open concept so everything is connected. We don't have the $ to replace the vinyl floor in the kitchen and hallway and bath. I don't want carpet anymore in the L.R. and D.R. I want to put laminate wood and use area rugs. Do you think it'll look bad if the living room and dining room are the wood and the connecting kitchen and hallway stay the same vinyl floor that's there and in great shape yet? The floor that'll stay is a vinyl that looks like green tile with black and white specks. Thank you.

Answers:
It will look fine. We did the same thing, except where you have vinyl we have ceramic tile. I love my laminate and will eventually put it in the bedrooms, too.

No, that will look good once the wood floor is done right
No, it should look fine. Whoever installs your wood laminate floor will put something where the two floors join. I have the self stick tiles in my kitchen and wood laminate off of the kitchen and it looks fine.
I think it would look just fine. I would recommend putting in a transition strip between the two types of flooring. This covers any imperfections where they meet. This is something that should be standard for the contractor that does the work.
