There is brown stuff dripping from my ceiling... what could this be?!?!?
Question:There is brown liquid dripping through my ceiling... the room above it is the washroom... it's right below the toilet and bathtub. Last week it was dripping clear water, now it's dripping this disgusting brown stuff!! What could it be? There is ants all surrounded by it, so could it be something sweet?

That sounds an awful lot like a plumbing problem upstairs, I'm sorry to say. Sounds like a leak of some kind - whether from your pipes, the washer overflowing, the roof even. I'd call a plumber or a very handy friend immediately to take a look. The dark spots could be coming from waste that runs through the pipes of the house.
Also consider the possibility of mold in addition - mold can show up as dark wet-looking patches on your ceiling.
If the room is humid, sometimes moisture in the air can gather on the ceiling and start to drip down, and maybe it's bringing some old dirt with it. But I think you'd see droplets forming on your ceiling in other places - not sure.
A lot of times a simple solution while you wait to fix the problem, is to take short showers and not to fill the bath/sink. I'm not sure why this works but when a lot of water drains at once, it seems to make a bad situation worse.
Unless you spackled with molasses, I don't think it's any thing sweet.
well it sounds like your toilet seal is leaking ..or if your in an apartment your neighbors dead body may be decaying and breaking down and leaking into your place...

it sounds like that you have a water line that is leaking in between the subflooring and because of the conctant leaking it has soak through the wood causing it to discolor. you need to get that repaired before it rots out you ceiling. with it leaking it all ready sounds like it has caused some damaged
