Do CFL lightbulbs fit in the same sockets as incandescants?
Question:Pardon the spelling. But if they do fit the same sockets, great! They last 3 times longer and take A LOT less energy. They're awesome! (I'm really into saving the environment lol)
Answers:
Yes, they fit. However, proceed with caution ...
Ask for the mercury content, most have 5mg. Yuk. Try Phillips with 1.5mg of mercury. You should not throw CFL bulbs in the trash, but instead take them to a toxic waste site. The environmental cleanup of a broken CFL in your home/office may not be covered by your insurance policy.
Know that CFLs give off more UV.
Know that CFLs don't work with dimmer switches.
Know that a 14w CFL is only about 60w incandescent. 28w CFL is about as bright as an older 100w.
Avoid CFLs "Made in China", I have heard of three fires.
There are monthly kWh savings, but the hidden costs create lots of questions for me. I'm waiting for more data before "upgrading" my home.
Yep, they'll fit fine
yes they do
They do. By the way, it's spelled "I N C A N D E S C E N T"
I manage an apartment full of them and their life-span seems the same as the oldies--also they cause radio frequency interference if you listen to short wave radio. Last but not least--they cost more----anything for the environment.
Yes, they will fit...but in a 3 way socket-they are too short. Three way bulbs have a longer neck so stick with regular incandescent bulbs for the floor lamps, etc. The CFL bulbs are great. I have been using some for a couple of years now. Haven't changed one yet...
Yes, they do...however for ceiling fans or smaller lamps they do have smaller CFL for that. Our electric bill decreased by 20.00 the first month we used them...It is a good move for your wallet and the enviroment...
