Textured ceiling?
Question:How do you make the pretty textured designs on a ceiling?
Answers:
My husband and I did this in our livingroom and our bedroom. First we determined the design by practicing on a piece of cardboard. You thin down drywall mud, approximately 4 parts mud to 1 part water. You apply thinly with an 8 or 10 inch knife, about a 2' x 2' space, then we used the top of a small broom or you could use a 3 or 4 inch paint brush. Put it on the edge of the ceiling and swirl in a circle. Make sure you are being random, you don't want to detect a pattern. In the living room I used a sponge-type stamp to apply a fern leaf in the center of some of the swirls, I pressed it in firmly and pulled it up straight. Everyone compliments me on it. Prime the ceiling when it's completely dry and cover that with ceiling paint. The first ceiling took us 4 hours but when it came time for the bedroom it only took us 1 1/2 hours (after the practice). Get someone to help, it's quicker and more fun with someone, with one person to apply and one person to swirl.
You can use dry wall compound and make your own design with a spatula or anything really, or you can buy the pre fab textured paint that looks a bit like cottage cheese, or you can hire someone with a sprayer and air compressor to spay them for you.VERY MESSY
With a tool called an,"Air Hopper". It's used with an air compressor.
