Is there a more pleasant replacement for a ceiling mounted circular fluorescent tube? I have one in my kitchen

You will most likely need to purchase a new fixture and replace it.

It is simple to replace a light fixture. At least more simple than trying to change just the circle tube. Turn the light switch off, remove the fixture cover. Undo the screws holding the fixture. Undo the fixture wires from the power wires. Notice which wire the white one is attached to. Install new fixture according to instructions.
