If she doesn't use them, or love them, ask her if she can get rid of them. Remind her if she's only keeping it because of guilt (someone gave it to her, it used to belong to someone she knew/loved) then it doesn't make her really happy and she shouldn't keep it. Keep the memory, not the stuff.
As for the sofa, if it isn't being used, and probably never will, get rid of it, too. Try a yard sale, or freecycle.com for someone who might need it.
If all fails, and she won't let you get rid of anything... Find some underbed storage bags or boxes and stuff everything under your/her bed. Throw a pretty blanket or sheet over the couch to hide its ugliness and try to live with it.
maybe there's room in the garage/outdoor shed to store these things? Does any other family member need or want these items? maybe they could store them for you if they have room.
Best thing to do, though. If they aren't being used, they aren't being loved, so let them go. Get rid of them. If they are taking up room, they are JUNK. Even if they are nice enough to bless someone else with, they are JUNK to you because you don't use them/love them.
Direct your mom to flylady's website and find the section on De-Cluttering. Maybe this will help her find it easier to let them go.
it's your mom's stuff ask her first.. now if she doesn't care then have a yard sale and make a little extra cash.. just pick a weekend when your mom is not around or she will want all the money..
