What colour should I paint My Living Room?
Question:I have cream sofas but they ae looking old and I cannot afford to buy new ones. my carpet is a strange dark green. my walls are currently magnolia/cream. i want a dfresh new look to bring life to my living room. any suggestions??
Answers:
You could get slipcovers for your couches. They make all kinds now & they fit much better than the ones your Mom used. I use them all the time (dogs & little fingers on everything! -- my couch used to be yellow! LOL.)
Repainting will also help. I am a fan of taupe and/or camel walls with bright white trim. The colors go with anything & you can accessorize with "pops" of color. Maybe some new throw pillows and an area rug.
Heya mamma , yu should paint it..ummm
well i dont know.. sorry im not very useful.
but i have more points than you!!
dont wrk too hard!!
About Caramel!
you can buy or make a couple pillows for your sofa with some green and caramel stripes or another pattern if you like.
Try warm chocolate brown walls. Dont go too dark though or it will look like a cave! Then spice it up a bit with some turquoise accents like pillows, curtains, candles etc. Or use a bright yellow to contrast with the walls. I will warn you that browns generally make the room look smaller, but also make photos and other wall decorations stick out more. (Funny story, my friend painted her walls brown, then a good family friend of theirs came over and noticed the framed painting on the wall for the first time, and he is color blind!) I would also reccomend that you go with Tungsten lighting if you paint the walls brown. Flourescent lighting makes it look funny becuase it has a more "blue" light, but Tungsten is warm yellows and will match it better. Anyway Brown will also give it that cozy, relaxed feeling.
On another note, if you have flourescent lights you could paint the walls turqoise or a turqoisey-blue and accent it with brown pillows, wall decor etc. This will even work with tungsten lights, and those cream sofas will stand out and look good because of the contrast in the color. This will add more excitement and life to the room because the walls will be bright. I would then reccomend simple wall decor, but that is your call and up to your taste.
Either of these options will blend in with that strange dark green carpet because brown and green go well together and the turquoise is in the same color group.
Good luck!
Oh, I wouldn't paint your walls. My suggestions is sofa slip covers. They have all kinds of colors or floral patterns. Add some bright pillows. Hang up some mirrors with other accessories will also brighten your room. I know you can think of more! Go for it! Good luck!
Heck yeah, I have suggestions!
How about doing what I did?
(after painting the ceiling a bright, true white,)
I purchased paint in a couple of different colors for each room I was planning to paint. Peach tones for the hall and living room; the dining room and kitchen had 'close but not quite the same' colors in more salmon to peachy-beige tones; the laundry room had soft yellow to very light peach tones.
It's very important that first and foremost, you empty the rooms, prep the walls by washing them with Jasco, and mask everything you don't want paint on ---before even beginning to first painting the ceiling...
In a paint tray, I poured the two colors side by side in equal amounts; and I took a Purdy roller with the longest nap (length of the 'fur' on the roller), and I lightly coated the roller with both colors of paint. I applied to the wall in 2' to 3' strokes, (looking at the wall as though it was a clock face) going up, down, back and forth in a couple of different directions; then re-loaded my roller, again, lightly, and proceeded to cover the next area with the two colors, moving in 2' to 3' strokes, but in slightly different directions, in a different order (rather than 1:00 to 7:00 on the "clockface" that's my wall; I'd go from 3:00 to 9:00). And keep moving right along I'd covered the entire wall.
Don't be too "systematic" about it, or you'll end up with patterns...
Don't be too concerned about making sure you have *exactly* equal amounts of each color with each re-loading of the roller; sometimes do 1/3 darker shade and 2/3 lighter shade, and the next re-load do 1/2 and 1/2, etc. (I did most of my re-loads as 1/2 and 1/2, but I didn't freak if it was not even.
This was also a great way to cover the imperfections on the walls of my 45 year old home.
The walls came out looking like something you'd find in Mediterranean countries... the colors are so warm and inviting, and most people who've seen our house comment on how much they like the wall treatment.
Mint Green, Grey, Dark Khaki, You can slip cover the sofas with black and paint the walls grey.accent in all different types of greens?
Just an idea.
Perhaps you could add some throw pillows, some new curtains, a new lamp or two, and paint one wall a shade of green. There are some people who sell things at bargain prices at their yard sales. Good luck.
Start by buying slipcovers for your sofas. It will make them look new and refreshed. Then, find a paint color that will compliment the green carpet, making it not look so strange.
you can paint the room a nice beige or tan and dress the room with shelves and nick nacs.. also adding some beautiful pictures would look nice give the room a good feel.. here is my favorite photographer she is really awesome.. http://www.wisconsinphotos.com/...
post pictures of the room once your done i am sure we would all love to see it
good luck
how about peach or salmon, coral? you could add pillows in this color for the couch and then enlarge some prints you like(on your computer-frame in inexpensive matching frames and this should brighten it up.
I love the look of old barn wood, do half way up the wall with barnwood, and only on your two wall that you like best i guess. Green baige and gray would be very pretty, or you could go what ever color of wood you wanted to. I've also seen Z-Brick on walls for decor. I have even brought in a huge stump and put plants on it, believe it or not but it is beautiful, I've had lots of compliments on it, I could go on and on I love to make up new Idea's in my house.
You dont want anything too dark. I would go with a warm beige color.
A pale gold with white trim. Maybe one wall in coral?
Benjamin Moore Atrium White.
