How to get cheap granite counters?

Question:We're are about to buy a home and the kitchen is awful, adding granite counter tops would be great but they seem expensive. Any advice on where to look for lower costing granite countertops

Answers:
are you familiar with remnants? Most granite suppliers in your area will have "leftover" from previous jobs. Depending on how much you need this can be very cost effective. Most will not charge for the materials if you give them the installation job. ITS also a way to spend less on a higher quality material.

1) Shop sales--what price range were you looking for? SOMETIMES you can get wholesale prices, but rarely. Remember not to be TOO unrealistic.

2) Look at granite alternatives that are less expensive. There are even laminates that resemble granite without the price.

3) It's been in my experience that when it comes to kitchen remodels, don't always go for the cheapest. Especially if you're looking to sell eventually, you'll want to find colors of granite that go with your ktichen, not just the best price.
Granite tiles may be an option.
China has the cheapest granite. About $4.00 a square foot. ~
granite tiles with colored grout is a cheaper alternative than slab granite. just don't leave as much space in between them as regular times. it makes them look more like slab granite.
