What bedroom colours should i go for?
Question:Im 14 years old and we're moving into a new house so i need to pick the colours of my bedroom. I dont want pink. My favourite colour is teal but im not sure if i want my room that colour. I want deep, bold, statement colours. Im only going to paint one wall a bright colour and keep the rest neutral. But i dont want a really mechanical room where EVERYTHING is red or blue or green, i want accent colours too but i just cant decide. Does anyone have any interesting colour coordinations that i could use? I spend alot of time in my bedroom and have solid wood (light) furniture, with wooden floors. Thanx
Answers:
A bedroom is where you lay your heart open to the stillness of thought and night.
Tranquil colours are what you need, such as pale green. You could give it a "statement" by marbling with magnolia.
As you have light wood furniture, the pale green would go well and give a sort of feel of nature. Again a peaceful blend.
But, what do I know? It may not be "cool" for a 14 yr old to have a calming bedroom.
I understand your need for rich colors, but a bedroom isn't the place for it. Colors in a bedroom should be restful, not vibrant; remember, you sleep there. Why don't you go with a very pale blue/green?
to be restfull, go with blues.
perhaps you can try dark green. as for you to be able to think forests around
Go for yellow! personally I think a yellow room looks really airy, and light, and summery all year round. most other colours go with yellow, so yu can have lots of little things of different colours around the room and it will all look good! anyway thats just me!
Well i cant tell you how to paint your bedroom buy i have some great thoughts. I think maybe you can bick one base coulor. for example Blue you paint each wall a diffrent shade maybe like dark blue, skyblue, babyblue, teal or aquamarine. each wall could be a diffrent shade but you should go with waht your mind tells you.
You say you have wooden floors. Why don't you find a rug that you really really like, and then pick your accent colours out of that? Or use cushions in the same way if a rug is out of your budget?
I often find it's easiest to find an accessory and work up from that because then you have a definite point of reference, rather than trying to find accessories to match your paint colours.
You should try light Violet (different brands may call it by different names but let it be violet for you) for your bed room. I feel your search will be over.
Select a new bedspread or new curtains in a fabric you love and choose the colors from that.
Teal is restful. Restful colors on wall and more intense colors for accent (pillows etc.)works great. What you like is what is best ..
If your mum doesn't object to you having vibrant colours you go for em! Never mind that bedrooms are supposed to be restful, you are a teenager and there is plenty of time for resting when you are an old f@rt like me! Enjoy yourself while you are young, I wish I could have picked my bedroom colours when I was your age. We had boring magnolia and mushroom when I was a lass - duh! I like Aubergine as an accent wall with mint green it has the WOW factor and isn't too OTT! Good luck pet. x
My bedrooms a vibrant orange with reds and yellows, but considering your furniture why dont you go for blues and greens, like the ocean? it would be calming, serene, and tranquil, great for a room where your meant to relax.
I think you could definatly use a teal blue. But in a bedroom I would lean more towards a robins egg or tiffany's box blue. Its not a pastel but it's not a really deep dark color. As long as you have a lot of light in that room, you should be fine. It would look beautiful with your light wood furniture. Also, you could add buttery yellows and creamy neutrals as accents and it would feel very beachy and airy.
Another way you could do it is use a tiffany's box blue and a light grassy green with your light wood. Either way I love adding live plants to any room. I think it brings color and life into a space.
Good luck! Hope I was of some help!
I say something mellow if you want more sleep and spicy if you want more.. spice. Blues lower blood pressure, green eases tension and fears. Yellow makes you more active and reds/oranges make you hungry. Whatever you want to do it your choice! Good luck !!
I think that for you light airy happy colours are most suitable. For that reason I recommend tangerine for your one bright wall and splashes of accent here and there. For the remaining walls a very light ochre colour would be suitable.
Ochre has so much to offer. It contains a lot of yellow with a bit of earth. It naturally fits in with the present trend towards environmentally friendly materials. It looks fabulous with light wood furniture.
Don't paint your ceiling pure white, give it a very light blue tinge, hint of of azure.
An ethnic bedspread with all those patchwork colours would really set give the whole decor a lift and make the room look light and friendly.
I have one wall in my bedroom that's metallic lilac..I have lilac and purple accessories to compliment it;o}
The rest of the walls and ceiling are white. It looks blinding with the wooden floor and maple coloured furniture!
Good luck in your new home X
Pick rich greens, yellows and browns. You could match these colours with magnolias, darker greens and the odd red/purple/violet.
Why don't you check out this website. It has lots of color combinations. You're sure to find one that speaks to you.
Have fun!
Whatever colour your Secure Unit has in stock I guess...:-)))
Purple and orange
I'd suggest going shopping for a bedspread or rug first. Find something you really love and then pick the neutral and statement colour for the walls out of that.
i'd say go beige on all walls and then have an accent wall of blue.or you could do one wall in a patterend wallpaper...teal would also be nice just i think it would get a little bit much on all your walls.the nice thing about paint is you can always cover it up so just experiment a bit
u have a lots of answers & they r all good answers. But I have to agree... u'r a teen..so go w/ the pop! If u like the pop colors, then do it. If u don't want u'r wall teal then use it as accents for pillows/bedspread/curtains/cha... of that nature. Now lets' c what would go w/ teal... lilac/lavender/dusty purple/... blues.black.oranges/reds... look at a color chart. Y not try something different as a faux finish. 1 wall or 2... make the wall that u walk into u'r room that u c the vocal pt. U could stripe it w/ the colors u may use. OR sponge it...OR comb it... IF u don't like it., my moto.. u can always paint over it.
Like some of the others say, chose a bedspread or a rug or chair & pick colors from that. If u'r folks r kewl about it, go w/ POP
