How do you all decide what your favorite color is?
Question:i love hot pink and carolina blue but i don't know what color to paint my room. Is there any ways to help me decide?
(i don't want my room blue and pink!, so please don't put that as an answer!)
thanks
Answers:
Right now I am redoing my whole room. I am painting the walls pink and the trim a chocolatey brown. I am making brown curtains and I have a brown duvet for the bed. You should pick either the blue or the pink and leave the trim white or black or brown or something for contrast. Or you can do the walls one color and the furnishings the different color.
If you have a bedspread or curtains or even a pillow in your room, pick a colour from it and go from there .
check out HGTV color chooser. or lowes, com has a program to see how rooms look with diffirent colors in them. just try all the colors till you come up with something you like. your right pink and carolina blue doesn't really work.
do a simple basic color for the walls and go crazy on the curtains and the bedding. those are easy things to change.
think about which color makes you feel more comfortable at anytime.
Think about which one you would get sick of. Blue is considered calming and hot pink would be high energy. Think about which one you would prefer being in and how they would effect you.
try purple. the color you wear most is your favorite color.
Ask yourself, will you still feel comfortable with this color (either one) painted in the room 10 years later? If the answer is yes, then that's the one. Otherwise, pick one that you think you'd let it last longer and not thinking of changing it.
P.S. If i were you, i won't pick the hot pink, which is the color that could potentially draw me into anxiety. That was pointed by a psychologist.
Find something that pleases you and sootehs your soul. It doesn't matter if its the color of your sheet or that of your snekers, your favorite color (and for starters make it a general color like blue or green not mauve or indigo) should be something you like to see. Note if you like to see blood then your favorite color could be red, but then you could also be crazy.
Well your favirite colors might not look good with your room, try picking something that would look nice with the lighting and soothing when you're trying to sleep(as in not too bright). And go with a color that matches the other items in your room.
Which color makes you feel happiest? Pick that one.
I can think of 2 approaches:
1) Get that paint color sample brochure - the one with little boxes of colour
From experience, it turned out pointless from me to think/discuss with my family of the wall color. There was actually limitation to the shade I really wanted.
Unless, you are willing to mix cans of paint to achieve your ideal color, otherwise just look at the sample. This should help to narrow down your choices.
Then, choose according to:
a) the feel at the moment looking at them
b) think about the practicality or do you have a message/theme like cheery sunny orange-yellow theme, calm cooling ocean breeze light-bluish-green, green forest soothing-green, earthy autumn reddish-brown, blazing passionate sun red, mysterious dark night dark-blue etc
2) Like most said, safe, neutral colours, like beige, apple-white, pale yellow etc never quite go wrong, for the following reasons:
a. bring more light to the room/house
b. easy to coordinate with decoration
c. evergreen colour that few people complain
d. unlikely to regret the overall result as such colour is so neutral, unless you like darker tones
However, such colour can be very bland, or so-called unexciting for some people. BUT with the right coordition, it can have a strong say in personality. See whether you want to go for complementing colour scheme or strong contrast.
Hope this help. HAVE FUN!
